About Zara:
There’s a new puppy to welcome to the adoption page, and her name is Zara! Zara is a shepherd estimated to be between 5-6 months old. She came to us as an unclaimed stray, so everything we’ve learned has been through her time here at the shelter.
Right after she arrived, Zara initially expressed hesitancy when approaching new people and experiences. Once she realized our team could provide her safety, comfort, and confidence, she lowered those barriers and let her people-loving personality shine. Her favorite activities include meeting new people, exploring on walks, and thoroughly enjoying her toys.
From day one, Zara’s been busy learning new skills which she picks up on rather quickly due to her high treat-motivation (and desire to make her people happy). While potty training is still in progress, she’s already mastered ‘sit,’ ‘heel,’ and the basics of walking on leash. In fact, her leash manners are top-notch, making her a favorite walking buddy.
As for interacting around others, Zara shows a playful interest in smaller dogs and coexists well around cats – but larger dogs make her uneasy. Older, respectful children are recommended due to her jumpiness (she doesn't realize her size, either).
When we picture Zara’s ideal home, an active, outgoing family comes to mind. Rather than being someone’s first dog, Zara would instead be a great addition for people with prior dog experience. She’s prone to separation anxiety and does exhibit some fear-based behaviors when she’s introduced to lots of new experiences, so someone knowledgeable about dog body language will be her best match.
Although we don’t know what her past looked like, we’re confident that her future is bright. The best fit family will be lucky to have her as their loyal companion for years to come. Fill out the application below to see if that’s you!
