Giving to WAHS
Small Contributions fuel our Rescue Work
Since the Winona Area Humane Society does not receive federal or state funding, we are funded entirely by:
Donations from businesses, corporations, and generous individuals
Yearly fundraisers
Fees from adoptions, pet surrenders, and lost pet reclaims
You may be wondering, “What can I do to help?” There are plenty of ways that you can make a difference right now! Keep scrolling to see how you can help the animals at WAHS.
donate items
We are SO grateful for each and every item generously given to help the animals and the shelter as a whole. Several donation methods are available for ease of access - we do not take your generosity for granted, and wish for the donation process to be as simple as possible. If you prefer shopping through Amazon, we have wishlists for dogs/puppies, cats/kittens, most needed items, and larger gifts to give. We also have wishlists set up on Chewy and Kuranda Shelter Beds. Our address is automatically entered on each list, making shipping to our building simple & convenient for you!
In addition to new items, WAHS is able to accept gently used (and sanitized) toys, chews, small beds, and small blankets. We can also take pet food, treats, and cat litter that’s already been opened, as long as it’s in the original packaging. We ask that you tape/close the bag prior to dropoff, and then bring it to WAHS during the hours listed below.

Donate your time
Volunteer with one of our programs
Whether you’d like to interact with dogs, cats, or both, we have a variety of programs available! We are always in need of dog walkers to spend time with four-legged friends outdoors. Cat socializers are welcome to visit feline friends indoors (by appointment). Volunteers also have the option of fostering animals that can’t reside in the shelter setting.
Interact with our online presence
WAHS has several active social media accounts. Every like, comment, and share helps widen our reach. This ultimately results in increased awareness and more animals finding excellent forever homes! If you’re able to contribute to the success of our online messaging, check out some of our accounts linked below.
Help out with fundraising events
Since we’re heavily funded by generous donations, yearly fundraisers are essential to completing our mission. While we’re always looking for new ideas, some of our yearly staples are the Wine Tasting & Silent Auction, Steamboat Days events, the March of the Pomeranians, and Paws for Reflection.
If you want to be regularly involved in any yearly events, contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction!
