Pet Food Pantry

Short-Term Assistance Program

Thanks to local businesses and community donors who supply food, Winona Area Humane Society offers a Pet Food Pantry to temporarily assist pet owners who’ve fallen on hard times. Scroll down to learn how the program works.

How It Works

  • There are several options to do so: email office@winonahumane.org (or use this website’s Contact Us page), call 507-452-3135, or stop by during business hours. We do recommend contacting us in advance to check if we have what you need. When you arrive, knock on the front red door or call.

  • The paper form is filled out here at WAHS, takes a few minutes to complete, and asks a bit about you, your pets, and includes a form of ID.

WAHS reinstated a signup-based assistance program after operating on the honor system for several years. Having each pet owner complete a brief form helps us accurately reflect the program’s positive impact, establishes fair distribution of temporary assistance, reduces long-term reliance, and makes sure there’s enough pet food to assist as many families as possible when they suddenly fall on hard times.

  • After the form is completed, you’ll be provided with pet food on the same day. We usually have many varieties of cat and dog food on hand (both wet and dry) and try our best to match what you’re looking for, but it depends on what’s donated and available.

  • Since this program’s purpose is to provide temporary assistance to struggling pet owners, pickups are limited per year; this ensures we have a sufficient supply to go around. The need for this service has steadily increased, and it’s our duty to ensure assistance is available for as many beloved pets as possible.

We thank everyone for understanding. If you’d like to know more about the program or have further questions, get in touch with us!
