Foster homes are a vital part of the Winona Area Humane Society’s mission.

Dedicated foster volunteers keep our programs running smoothly, save as many lives as possible, and free up shelter space for emergency intakes. While WAHS doesn’t always have animals in need of fostering, we actively accept foster applications year-round and keep them on file. That way, fosters are within reach when cats or dogs need help!

The demand for foster homes fluctuates throughout the year, especially for cats - during Kitten Season (around spring and fall), we desperately need fosters for pregnant cats, moms with litters, and orphaned kittens. Dog foster homes are in higher demand when we receive out-of-state transports or influxes of local surrenders.
