About Gus:
Gus is a big-hearted baby in an extra-large package! At just 10 months old, this stunning Harlequin Great Dane is still learning the ropes of life and looking for a patient, experienced (or eager-to-learn) adopter to help him reach his full potential.
He’s up to date on vaccinations and will need his neuter and gastropexy completed as part of his continued care. Gus isn’t yet potty trained, but with a consistent routine and someone who’s committed to his development, he’ll get there. He’s a smart boy who just needs time and guidance.
Gus is a total lovebug and does great with cats, other dogs, and kids. That said, he’s still growing into his legs and size, so smaller kids and babies should be supervised carefully — he means well, but doesn’t always realize how big he is! He walks decently on leash but can pull when excited, so he needs someone who can confidently handle a dog of his size and strength.
While he’s a little shy around new people, Gus warms up and turns into a magnet: sweet, goofy, and eager to connect. Car rides aren’t his favorite (yet), but with positive reinforcement and some practice, he may come around to the idea in the future.
Because of his breed, Gus will do best with someone who has Great Dane experience or is willing to fully learn about what comes with owning a giant breed: large-breed nutrition, health needs (like gastropexy), and understanding their unique lifespan and lifestyle requirements.
He will also need a home with room to match his size, both in physical space and in lifestyle. Gus is not a dog who can squeeze into a small apartment or be treated like a lapdog (even if he tries). His ideal adopter will be someone who is both physically capable and financially prepared to meet the needs of a giant breed — from the cost of food and vet care to the daily logistics of managing 120+ pounds of pure love.
If you're looking for a lifelong companion and are ready to commit to helping this gentle giant grow into the incredible dog he’s meant to be, Gus just might be your guy. Please submit an application below to see if you’re a match. Applications will be reviewed for best fit.
