A little about Rufus:

If you’re looking for a goofy, lovable pup with the soul of a wise old man and the paws the size of a baby moose – Rufus is your guy. At about 8 months old, this Bernese Mountain Dog/Collie mix already tips the scales at 80lbs, and he’s still growing! Rufus is expected to become 100+ pounds of pure love and fluff.

Rufus is all goofy puppy energy, but with a surprisingly old soul vibe that makes him the ultimate cuddle buddy. He lives for all of the attention (and definitely deserves it), and melts into you like butter when it’s snuggle time.

He’s considered a high-energy dog, but is not destructive. Rufus directs his energy towards appropriate outlets like learning new tricks, playing fetch (one of his favorites), and going on adventure walks. Rufus is quite fond of road trips and rides like a champ in cars.

Considering Rufus’ size, energy, and initially shy personality, there are a couple characteristics he’ll need in his forever place:

  • A home spacious enough for a very big boy

  • Someone patient with his initial shyness (especially with men–he warms up with kindness and time)

  • Having a future dog friend depends on the dog and each introduction

  • Lots of love, treats, and space to grow into the majestic dog he’s meant to be

This pup is ready to go from big ol’ shelter baby to full-time family companion. Apply to meet him at Winona Area Humane Society and fall in love!
