Ember

Status: available for visits!

Information: female, Shepherd mix, around 10 months old, getting up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed

  • Uncertain if she’ll be able to have a dog friend; may need to be decided on a case-by-case basis (she’s shown different reactions, depending on the dog)

  • Seems to do okay around cats

  • Likely would be okay around older, respectful children

    • She hasn’t been kid-tested but doesn’t realize her size and can get jumpy when excited

  • Mostly house-trained

    • She has had occasional accidents but is still in puppyhood and may not have had consistent training before (she’s progressed since being at WAHS)

About Ember:

Spark some joy in your life and fill out an application to meet Ember! Ember is a teenaged pup brimming with eagerness to find a dedicated family.

Unfortunately Ember arrived as a stray, likely abandoned, so her past is unknown - but each day we’re learning more about Ember’s personality and the environments she’d thrive in.

First and foremost, Ember’s quite intelligent. She’s driven to learn and has great potential to excel in training progress with a consistent, dedicated owner. She’s already well on her way to having the basics down, mastering ‘sit,’ ‘stay,’ ‘wait,’ and ‘place.’ In addition to expanding her skills, Ember will also need guidance to build her confidence.

Ember’s fairly treat-motivated, being particularly partial to peanut butter and Pupperoni, which have helped in her training and socialization progress. It can take a bit for Ember’s nerves to calm, especially when meeting new people, so some gentle encouragement helps her along. And once Ember’s comfortable with someone, she’s the biggest cuddlebug! Getting all the attention and snuggles from people is probably her most favorite activity (that, and a good game of tug with soft toys). Ember also enjoys car rides!

If there’s one thing Ember definitely does NOT like, it’s being alone. She’ll do best in a home where people are around frequently - at least in the beginning, until she gets established and feels secure. She may be a bit of a velcro dog, but that just means you’ll have the cutest shadow as your buddy.

While Ember waits for her spay, she can get a headstart with meeting potential families now. It may take a few visits for Ember to let her guard down, but the time is so worth it. She deserves the chance to show all she can offer as a dedicated, loving companion. Fill out the application below to see if you’re a match.
