About Reba:

Reba’s gearing up for a showdown, and she needs YOUR help. Apply to welcome Reba home, either as your temporary foster houseguest or adopted companion, while she battles a formidable foe: heartworm.

Originally coming from Texas, Reba arrived at WAHS through abandonment. During her vet appointment to get her up-to-date for adoption, Reba unfortunately tested positive for heartworm disease: a condition that is treatable, but is lengthy and requires specific home conditions.

She needs a calm, relaxing place for a few months – and with dogs walking by her kennel multiple times per day, the shelter is not that. It’s unsafe for her to begin treatment until being placed in a quiet, committed foster home.

Reba can take time to warm up to new people, then is happy to show her sweet, goofy girl, unique personality. Reba enjoys leisurely strolls, stretching out and sunning herself, getting pets, checking out new stuffies, and eating ALL the treats.

A foster (or forever) home match for Reba:

  • Is one that’s within Winona, or reasonably close for frequent vet treatment trips

  • Must have a setup to keep her calm and relaxed

  • Can commit to caring for her for a minimum of three months, potentially up to six

Although Reba hasn’t been reactive to dogs when outside her kennel, she must be kept calm during her treatment – and for this reason, we’re seeking placement for Reba without other dogs to potentially get riled up by. She hasn’t been directly tested with cats.

Does Reba sound like a gal you can help? Send in a foster or adoption app below to see if you’re a match. Call or email us if you have any questions about Reba’s needs or what her unique treatment process looks like.

If you can’t foster or adopt her, please share Reba’s story and help us find her hero!
