About Porcupine and Otter:
Some cats come to the shelter eager to meet all the new friends as soon as possible, while others are more guarded and take time for their trust to be earned. The latter describes Porcupine and Otter, two reserved boys who are regaining their confidence at Winona Area Humane Society.
Porcupine and Otter came from a house of 9+ cats, and the change to the shelter environment definitely took a toll on them – but they’ve found great comfort in each other’s company and lean on one another to feel safe. Every day they make more progress and have all the makings to be dedicated, loving companions. A little bit about each individual is below.
During peaceful, quiet times, Porcupine has been very receptive with trusted caretakers and shows affection for gentle pets (with treat rewards, of course). He also adores spending time with brother Otter, so much so that they’re hardly ever apart — they’re usually sharing a cat bed, resting the day away.
Otter shares Porcupine’s tendency to gradually build trust, but he is extra treat-motivated which greatly helps the process along. He’ll never turn down a Churu treat, bravely venturing out of his cat cave bed if necessary (although he does prefer to dine in his napping location). Besides treats, Otter’s favorite activity is being snuggled up next to Porcupine.
Porcupine and Otter may not be ideal matches for a busy, lively home, but a quiet and cozy placement is right up their alley. If you consider yourself to be a patient and understanding person and you’re willing to meet an animal where they’re at, then Porcupine and Otter truly need you. They deserve to find a loving owner who’ll guide them, build their confidence, and allow them to acclimate on their own terms. Porcupine and Otter look forward to a brighter future, hopefully with you by their side!
